Cape voters most likely will decide the deer hunt issue this spring

Sep 07, 2012 -- 1:34pm

The Cape City Clerk has certified that the petition submitted by the Keep Cape Safe group relating to Urban Deer Hunting is sufficient.  The Cape County Clerk verified there were 3-thousand-911 signatures of legally registered voters on the petitions relating to the ordinance adopted July 16th.  This ordinance allows bow hunting in city limits.  According to city Charter, the ordinance is now suspended from taking effect.  The city council now has 30 days to repeal the referred ordinance or submit it to the voters of the City.  Keep Cape Safe spokesman Stephen Stigers tells KZIM KSIM the council can save time and money if they act accordingly.  Action on this matter will be taken up at the October 1st Council meeting.  If the ordinance is not repealed, the next available election date is April 2nd, 2013.  The group submitted 4-thousand-165 signatures to the clerk.  They needed a minimum of 24-hundred-46.
