Hayti’s mayor goes to court for a new charge against him on a Bootheel scam

Jun 19, 2012 -- 11:16am

Hayti’s mayor will be back in court in July for his role in a Bootheel scam!  Seven people were charged in November 2011 by the Highway Patrol.  The investigation revealed employees within the county road and bridge department and local businesspeople were being paid with county funds.  This continued for three years after false invoices were approved by the Pemiscot County Commission.  The list of suspects includes four former road and bridge employees, two local businessmen, and Hayti Mayor 39-year-old Bobby Watkins.  All seven are charged with forgery and stealing.  Watkins was charged in March with a new count of conspiracy of theft.  He posted a 10-thousand-dollar bond and will now be arraigned July 17th.
