A Caruthersville man has a hearing this summer for murder

A Caruthersville man will be back in court this summer after an apparent homicide!  Police were called to a house in the 13-hundred block of Zaida Street April 13th, 2011, for a man beating on the door of homes looking for help.  When officers arrived they found 29-year-old Stephen Smith of Caruthersville, lying on a front porch covered in blood.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  51-year-old Charles Cecil was charged with 1st-degree murder.  Police found evidence of a fight inside, which led to a gunshot fired at the victim.  Smith died of a single bullet wound to the chest.  Cecil pleaded not guilty in and will be back in court July 17th before Judge Fred Copeland.
