Cape Friends of Wildlife disappointed with the Cape City Council decision on Urban Hunting

Jun 19, 2012 -- 4:08pm

In a 4 to 3 yes vote Monday night the Cape Girardeau City Council moved forward on the revised deer hunting ordinance.  Under the program hunters would have to complete a hunter safety course, hold an archery permit, and would not be allowed to hunt within 150 yards of any church, school or playground.  The revised ordinance set the minimum property size to only an acre but owners can combine land parcels. There was a staunch disposition to hunting held by the Cape Friends of Wildlife.  Group Director Stephen Stigers tells KZIM-KSIM they are disappointed in the city leaders. Stigers adds they are now working on a petition to put a referendum on the vote of the ordinance.  They need approximately 25-hundred signatures by the next city council meeting July 2nd.  To learn more email the group at CapeFriendsofWildlife@Gmail.com.
