The Cape Girardeau Senior Center will be a cooling center this summer

This week is the official start of summer and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reminding you to be aware of the dangers caused by excessive heat.  In 2011 there were 47 heat related deaths in Missouri.  To help combat the weather the Cape Girardeau Senior Center is acting as a cooling shelter this summer.  Between 8 and 3 you can stop at the center on North Clark Street for cool air and some refreshments.  Center Administrator Susan McClanahan tells KZIM-KSIM if you must be outdoors be prepared. McClanahan adds you should avoid work in the hottest parts of the day and to check on neighbors and family members who live alone.  You can other cooling centers throughout the state at www.MO.gov.
