A local boy is hoping to raise enough money to participate in the International Student Ambassador Program. Jackson Middle School 6th grader, Derek Mathena tells KZIM/KSIM his teachers submitted him for the program, but he is really looking forward to visiting the 40 countries. He is preparing for the cultural lessons as well as the scholarly ones. The trip alone will cost $8,000, so Mathena and his parents have been doing fundraising. He is selling tickets to the VFW trivia night April 15th and gets proceeds from that. There is also an account set up at the Wood & Huston Bank under Derek’s name. You can call Missy Berry to make a donation as well, 573-273-4293.
