Interested candidates will have until the 18th to return paperwork filing for the temporary position as Cape Girardeau Ward 3 City Councilman. Four people have already picked up the information from City Clerk Gayle Conrad’s office—Patrick Koetting, Susan Joyce Smith, Victor Gunn, and Evan Trump. They also took paperwork to file as the permanent seat holder and will have until May 20th to return a petition with 50 signatures from the residences of Ward 3. The position became available after Cape Girardeau City Council member Trent Summers resigned March 31 because he's moving out of the city. To qualify as an official candidate in the election, both men must gather signatures from 50 registered voters in Ward 3 and have them certified by the city clerk.
