Union County makes strides to become more transparent to its citizens

Sep 14, 2012 -- 11:46am

Union County, Illinois is in the process of updating its website to become more transparent to its citizens.  The site received an “F” grade in June from the Sunshine Review, a leading advocacy group devoted to rating state and local transparency.  In a span of a few months, they received a “C” grade, joining the top-20-percent of Illinois counties thanks to their efforts to add more information to their website.  They recently disclosed information on the site on how to obtain public records and provided more financial data.  Rollie Hawk of Union County IT Solutions is helping to upgrade their website.  He tells KZIM KSIM the county administration is making a great effort to become more open with their records and ordinances.  Hawk says he’s disappointed the “C” grade from Sunshine Review and will work in the next few months to add more archives, records, and information to the county site to bring that grade to an “A-Plus.”  You can view their progress at unioncountyil-dot-gov.
