Cape Fire Department asks residents to use caution when shooting off fireworks

Jun 25, 2012 -- 4:07pm

The fourth of July is just around the corner and firework sales begin this Wednesday, but the Cape Girardeau Fire Department is asking residents to use caution when lighting displays.  The dry weather is causing safety concerns and increases the chance of fire.  According to Cape Girardeau Fire Inspector Ivan LaGrand even a small spark can start a large blaze.  He tells KZIM-KSIM another danger is allowing kids to light fireworks. Sales begin this Wednesday and you can shoot fireworks from 10 until 10 from the 27th through July 3rd.  On the fourth you can fire them until midnight.  LaGrand adds you should be aware of the city’s burn limits at those times as well.  You can check that by visiting www.cityofCapeGirardeau.org.
