Caruthersville’s Police Chief and his co-conspirator will be back in court in July for allegedly forging signatures on checks and stealing the cashed funds! 41-year-old Chris Riggs was charged October 5th, 2011, with 24 counts of forgery and one count of felony stealing after an investigation by the Highway Patrol. Riggs allegedly forged the signature of 41-year-old Officer Marcus Hopkins on over 25-thousand-dollars in checks for the purpose of cashing them. The checks were intended for the Caruthersville Criminal Investigation Fund. Hopkins denied giving Riggs permission to sign his name and resigned his post. Riggs is suspended pending the outcome of his case. Both were granted a change of venue to Dunklin County. Hopkins goes to trial July 13th before Judge Stephen Sharp. Riggs has a hearing July 25th.
