Cape Girardeau Fire Department personnel will start Monday testing fire hydrants citywide. Captain Mark Hasheider tells KZIM/KSIM there are two reasons for the annual tests--to make sure the hydrants are in working order and to provide a little maintenance on the system. Testing will take place during daytime hours from Monday to Saturday and should take about two weeks to complete. He says during this time you could notice water discoloration or a drop in water pressure, but this is normal and safe. Let the water run for up to five minutes to make sure it clears, but if you have any questions, Hasheider says call the fire department at 339-6330 or the Water Division at 339-6357.
