A local boy is hoping to teach you about his disorder and help other kids like him

May 12, 2014 -- 3:31pm

Cale Schremp is four years old and has an auto immune disorder called Alopecia Universalis. It causes a person to lose all body hair. His mom, Nikki says it can lead to other auto immune issues but usually just causes someone to look ‘different’ – like they have undergone chemotherapy. She tells KZIM KSIM it really just “happened” and left them scrambling…"It was right before his 2nd birthday and all within a matter of - literally a couple of weeks we just noticed hair in the hood of coat and we were unsure of what was going on. So in a few weeks it was ALL GONE. A lot of doctors in St. Louis were trying to figure out what was going on with him. We knew something was going we just didn't know what." Cale has business cards to hand out when people stare to explain alopecia and avoid uncomfortable situations. The Schremp’s invite you to the 2014 Jeep Cale Trail this Saturday starting at 10 am at the Barren’s Winery in Perryville. This is sixty miles of historic stops and fun followed by dinner and music. It is also a poker run. It is 40-dollars to participate. All proceeds go to the national alopecia areata foundation to help kids get quality wigs. There is more detailed information on the Cale Trail facebook page.
