After a comment last week that the city of Chesterfield should consider seceding from St. Louis County over taxes, the city’s mayor says not so fast. Chesterfield currently gives up over half of its tax revenue to St. Louis County. And Mayor Bob Nation says in recent years, it’s become a case of diminishing returns. For several years the city has tried to work with the county and the state legislature to effect positive change…but to no avail. While the City Council has not given the green light to study the possibility of seceding, Nation says his session remark has turned out to be a good thing by increasing the awareness of the issue. One sign of encouragement? Nation says he has accepted an invitation from the county to talk seriously about the tax issue in early June.
