The extreme dry conditions force Cape residents to tap more water

Jun 27, 2012 -- 11:31am

The extreme drought conditions are forcing area residents to make some tough decisions regarding their property….water your grass or let it go brown!  The lack of rain is taking a toll on lawns and crops and water usage is up in Cape Girardeau.  Alliance Water Resources manager Kevin Priester tells KZIM KSIM the average consumption is about 6-million gallons per day.  Priester says they have a maximum capacity of 10 million gallons per day, so they are not even close to proclaiming a water shortage.  He says it’s important for residents to be smart and conserve water when you can.  Cape has seen less than an inch and a half of rainfall this month.  The city is 12-inches short of normal for the year.
