The city of Perryville postpones its 4th of July display due to the dry conditions

Jun 27, 2012 -- 12:26pm

The city of Perryville is one of the first in the area to postpone its annual 4th of July fireworks celebration due to the drought.  The Rotary Club sponsors the display at the City Park.  But after meeting with Perryville leaders and fire department, they have decided it’s not worth the risk.  City administrator Brent Buerck tells KZIM KSIM they have to put safety first!  Buerck says they will try to offer the free event to city residents at a later date, if they get enough rainfall this summer.  He’s encouraging all citizens to support the open burn ban and not detonate fireworks through next week.  There are still professional fireworks shows locally in Cape, Jackson, Sikeston, Oran, East Prairie, Poplar Bluff, and Farmington on the 4th of July.
