Local military groups are banding as brothers to get the voice of a loved one in child’s life for Christmas

Sep 19, 2012 -- 8:30pm

A joint effort of the Jackson VFW, American Legion, and the Noon Optimists will result in bringing service members who are deployed overseas for Christmas, closer to their babies. Coordinator and locally honored Patriot Dave Hitt says Kerlin’s Hallmark has donated 25 recordable Christmas story books that the group will present to area families. He tells KZIM KSIM they need help identifying the families who qualify for the program… It is not just for ARMY soldiers. It is for all men and women who serve in any branch of the military. The only stipulation is that they are deployed over Christmas and that they have a child under the age of 10. They also do not have to be in Iraq or Afghanistan. They can be stationed anywhere in the world other than the USA.The target date is September 30th so there is ample time to mail the books overseas, have them recorded, and returned in time for the holiday. Call Hitt at 204-1068. The veteran’s groups will cover all of the postage.
