A volunteer firefighter from Jackson behind bars for allegedly setting a house on fire goes to court in October. 23-year-old Gordon Schafer was arrested August 19th, charged with 1st-degree arson. He allegedly set a home on fire on US Highway-61, the day before while the resident inside was sleeping. That home was next door to the Fruitland Fire Department. The fire was extinguished quickly. Police believe he set the fire randomly and the home occupant was not a target. Schafer posted a 25-thousand-dollar bond. He has a preliminary hearing October 3rd before Judge Michael Bullerdieck in Jackson.
