Southeast Health gives you some pointers to avoid the emergency room this summer

Jun 28, 2012 -- 2:46pm

With record setting temperatures expected this weekend Southeast Health is giving you some tips to avoid going to the emergency room.  Warm weather means you should watch the amount of time you spend outdoors and any activities should be done in the early morning or late evening when it is cooler outside.  If you have to be outside you should wear light, loose fitting clothing and protect your skin from the sun.  Emergency Room Nurse Emily Sheper tells KZIM-KSIM dehydration is a danger in this weather too. Sheper adds you should take frequent breaks and take advantage of cooling centers.  She also advises checking on neighbors and family members regularly who live alone.
