A 21-year-old senior at Southeast Missouri State University has died after being severely injured in a scooter accident. Meg Herndon of Fenton suffered a severe brain injury on the 9th when the scooter she was riding was hit by an F-250 pick-up truck in Cape Girardeau. She was flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries Thursday. Herndon's mother, Cindi, announced that Herndon's rare B-negative blood, liver and kidneys were being donated. Herndon played on the university's soccer team and was studying nursing. 19-year-old Steven Minner was issued a summons for misdemeanor failure to yield and failure to wear a safety belt. According to Cape County prosecutor Morley Swingle, there will be NO upgraded charges like manslaughter since there were no impairments such as speeding or drugs that contributed to the accident. Herndon’s funeral is set for Monday at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Church in Fenton. Minner has a court date October 15th in Jackson.
