A Cape Girardeau man is dead after a shooting Thursday night and a suspect is now in custody charged with murder. Police were called to the South Sprigg and Locust Street intersection at 9 PM. When they arrived, they found two victims who had been shot. Both were transported to a local hospital. Patrolman Darin Hickey tells KZIM KSIM they are now trying to piece together the motive. Hickey says 38-year-old Darcus Purl of Cape died at the hospital. The other victim, 34-year-old Steven Williams of Cape had non-life threatening injuries. He is charged with 2nd-degree murder and armed criminal action. Williams was arrested at a Cape hospital and taken to county jail on a 2-million-dollar bond. The shooting allegedly took place over a girlfriend dispute that escalated. Williams goes to court Monday before Judge Gary Kamp.
