Former Carter County sheriff Tommy Adams will be sentenced next week on federal weapons charges while he was still sheriff. The 32-year-oldpled guilty in April to two counts of stolen firearms possession, sale of a stolen firearm, and being a drug user in possession of a gun. Adams was arrested in April 2011, following a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation into his alleged drug deals. In December 2009, Adams seized 18 firearms from an arrest and sold one of them to a Highway Patrol informant. He was still sheriff of Carter County at the time, but resigned after the arrest. Adams will be sentenced on the 9th in US District Court in Cape. He faces up to 10-years in prison on each count.
