After years of absence due to a sour economy, the days of steamboat cruises stopping in Cape are back! The newly refurbished American Queen docked Monday for six hours along the floodwall in downtown. It was carrying 247 passengers. The Queen started its 7-day trip in Memphis June 28th and will end Wednesday in Saint Louis for its 4th of July festivities. Bruno Baumann and his wife are from Zurich, Switzerland. They started on their cruise in New Orleans June 21st and picked up the second leg in Memphis a week later. Bruno tells KZIM KSIM they have always dreamed of touring the Mississippi and this boat makes them feel like royalty. The Baumanns have already been to Yellowstone Park and Chicago over the past four weeks. They spent Monday touring the Cape museums, shops, and historic sites in downtown before they had to catch the Queen’s castoff at 5 PM. This cruise has already stopped in New Madrid and Paducah. It has a capacity of 436 passengers.
