Caruthersville Mayor Rick Davis says city offices will be closed today after a stabbing Thursday. Davis tells KZIM/KSIM Elizabeth Hardesty was in surgery Thursday afternoon when he spoke with her family. Hardesty is the water department bookkeeper and was working yesterday morning when an irate man came in about his disconnected water. 50-year old Richard Edward Jaworski of Caruthersville allegedly stabbed Hardesty multiple times. She was taken to a Memphis hospital. Caruthersville Police say Jaworski is in custody and charges are pending. The Mayor says city offices will reopen Monday.
