Jul 05, 2012 -- 6:03pm

After 33 years of service in Cape Girardeau current Chief of Police Carl Kinnison will be retiring from the force.  July 20th will be his last day, at which time Assistant Chief Roger Fields will step in as the interim chief.  Kinnison served in his current position for the last 7 years.  He tells KZIM-KSIM a new opportunity arose just as he was reaching his retirement years. This fall he will teach 5 different classes with the department of criminal justice at Southeast Missouri State University.  He also plans to continue his work with the force, specifically with laptops installed in the cruisers.  The city will celebrate his retirement on the 27th with a retirement party at the City Council Chambers.
