Next week the Sikeston Department of Public Safety will officially be relocated to the 200 block of South Kingshighway. The department will be moving from their current location on New Madrid Street. Construction isn’t completely finished but operations will begin at 8 AM out of the new offices on the 17th. The new facility allow room for a training center, more storage room for records and the ability to expand to five dispatching stations if needed. DPS Lieutenant Jim McMillen tells KZIM-KSIM they simply outgrew their other location. Additional work is still needed including the tearing down of a nearby building for a parking structure. The new building will have a public lobby open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will protect receptionists with bulletproof glass. The entire project has come within the set budget and ahead of schedule.
