Every 17 seconds someone new is diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. Lawson Thresher was diagnosed at only 21 months old. Now 11 he has endured over 8-thousand insulin shots, 28-thousand finger pricks, and 300 infusion sets for insulin therapy. Without these invasive treatments his illness could be fatal. This weekend Lawson’s Walking Warriors are hosting their 7th annual Poker Run. Coordinator Leslie Bruner-Thresher tells KZIM-KSIM all proceeds go back to research efforts. Registration begins at 11 at Bootheel Harley Davidson. The cost is only 15-dollars per hand and food, drinks and prizes will be awarded throughout the day. The goal for this year’s event is 10-thousand dollars.
