Students will see a different branch of campus security this fall at Southeast Missouri State University. The Department of Public Safety is launching their bike patrols this week. Five officers who are already on the force will don bicycle helmets and hit the streets in another effort to increase campus safety. DPS Director Doug Richards tells KZIM-KSIM aside from saving money on fuel, bike patrol offers several advantages to officers. Officers will patrol during days and evenings primarily in the spring, summer and fall. Southeast worked with city police to get bicycles and set up the program after meeting with agencies at other universities such as the University of Missouri.
