This weekend Hands Across Missouri will hold an event in Cape Girardeau to raise awareness of mental health issues. One in about four adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder each year which is more than 50 million people. This Saturday the Community Counseling Center will host this informal get together to help better inform the public on mental health issues. Coordnator Jerome Riley tells KZIM-KSIM people with mental health issues still lead normal lives. This week is Mental Awareness Week. The event will be held at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau at shelters 1 and 2. The event runs from 9 until 1 with a moment of silence at 11. It is free to attend and food will be available for purchase.
