If you are trying to book a hotel room in Cape Girardeau this weekend it may be tough!! Thousands of athletes and their families are ascending on the city to commence the 2012 Fall State Games for Special Olympics. Cape is in its third of four years as host city. Executive Director of the SE Region serving fourteen counties, Penny Williams tells KZIM KSIM we have set a precedent for other host cities in the beauty of our venues and a professional broadcast of the CAPE STORM softball game against St. Louis on Saturday at 8:30am on 1220 ESPN radio with Erik Sean and Todd Bonacki! Plus we have added new sports this year! Last year there was tennis, golf, and softball. This year bocce ball has been added and flag football! There will thirteen bocce courts at the Shawnee complex with soldiers from Fort Leonardwood assisting with the over one hundred games going on Friday! Local Law enforcement officials place the medals on the athletes after each competition. Join in as a volunteer or spectator! Let’s fill the Show Me Center Friday at 7pm for the opening ceremonies! The weekend winds down Saturday with a dinner and dance for all teams Saturday and final tournament play of softball Sunday morning at the Shawnee Complex.
