Southeast Missouri communities along I-55 have come together to market themselves as a region. City leaders from Sikeston, Scott City, Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Perryville have created a group that will meet and discuss strategy. The idea began when the Sikeston Executive Academy reached out to nearby cities citing the impact new businesses have on all the cities along Interstate 55. The joint effort will not infringe on any local plans of each city. Cape Mayor Harry Rediger tells KZIM-KSIM this opens the line of communication. Rediger adds most businesses are looking at a region and not city or county boundaries. The group plans to meet quarterly and discuss strategy for the corridor. The next meeting is planned for January.
