This past weekend the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to a high volume of fires. Disaster relief workers assisted with 36 adults and children who lost their home due to a blaze. The Southern Missouri Region, spanning 40 counties, the Red Cross to an average of three house fires a day. Volunteers make sure the family has shelter, food, and other basic necessities during their recovery. Spokeswoman Sara Gerau tells KZIM-KSIM this help is only possible thanks to donors. This week is National Fire Prevention Week and the Red Cross is also helping families and businesses learn how to protect themselves against fire.
