A cold case robbery suspect sentenced

Oct 10, 2012 -- 10:35am

A man already in state prison and charged with a cold case robbery has been sentenced!  50-year-old Charles O’Howell appeared Tuesday before Judge Ben Lewis on one count of forcible rape.  He is currently serving a 55-year term for a 1982 rape conviction.  His DNA was matched to an unsolved 1981 sexual assault of a 31-year-old Cape woman and was charged with felony forcible rape in July 2011.  The prosecutor has also added a 1st-degree robbery charge against him for allegedly robbing a Cape woman at her house at gunpoint in February 1982.  During his appearance this week O’Howell changed his plea to guilty on both charges.  His attorney asked his time be served consecutively as part of the plea but that was denied.  O’Howell will serve 25-years for the rape and 10 years for robbery.  These will run concurrently with his current sentence he is serving.
