A Cape Girardeau man accused of intentionally causing property damage a local office building will likely plead guilty, according to the man's lawyer.
Travis Fornkohl, 32, of Cape Girardeau was in court in Jackson on a case review, but the appearance was brief. Lawyer Malcolm Montgomery informed Judge Benjamin Lewis that his client was likely to plead guilty to second-degree burglary and first-degree property damage of the six-story Auburn Park Place at 3065 William St. in June.
Prosecutors allege that Fornkohl confessed to entering the building through an unsecure door and later opened a 6-inch water line that caused damage that will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. An anonymous informant directed authorities to Fornkohl, according to court documents.
Montgomery asked the judge for a bit more time to settle the matter and Lewis set Fornkohl's next appearance for Oct. 22.
