Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson speaks out on repealing the affordable care act

Jul 12, 2012 -- 9:18am

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson presided over the House of Representatives Wednesday during the first vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act.  The Supreme Court deemed the bill constitutional in June.  Emerson gaveled the vote close and reported a tally of 244 to 185 including her own vote to strike it down.  The bill will head to the Democratic controlled Senate.  Emerson tells KZIM-KSIM this is the first time she knows of where Americans will be taxed for inactivity. The health care law adds 5-hundred-25 billion dollars in new taxes and cuts medicare by 5-hundred billion dollars.  This is the 33rd time in 18 months the Republican led House has tried to scrap, defund or scale-back the law.
