The Missouri Court of Appeals Southern District may soon have a local presiding judge on the bench! The Honorable David Dolan of the 33rd Judicial Circuit including Scott and Mississippi Counties is one of three finalists to replace retiring Judge Robert Barney. Twenty-One applicants filed for the vacancy last summer. The appellate judicial commission interviewed all 21 for eight hours Thursday. They named the three finalists later that night. Court spokeswoman Beth Riggert tells KZIM KSIM they ultimately decided Dolan, attorney John Price, and Judge Mary Sheffield were the tops of the bunch. Riggert says each nominee needed at least four of the seven member commission’s votes to be named a finalist. The three names were submitted to the Governor. He has 60 days to select one member to fill the void. Judge Barney served 25 years on the bench, including an 8-year stint in Stoddard County before he was named to the Appeals Court in December 1995.
