A new residence hall is on schedule to open on the north side of the Southeast Missouri State campus next fall. It will offer 262 beds. The board of regents Friday approved a 20-million-dollar project to construct another new dorm at the River Campus. The plans call for up to 180 beds, suite-style housing, common lounge, laundry, and exercise space. Academic space will be on the first floor of the four-story building, with dorm rooms on the upper three. Southeast Vice-president of finance and administration Kathy Mangels tells KZIM KSIM this is a new concept to allow for more instruction space and help solve their housing shortage. Mangels says bonds will be issued to fund the project, most likely in December. Revenues from housing contracts and meal plans from students will retire the bonds. Bids would be let out in February 2013 with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2014.
